Mindset March: Cultivating Self-Worth and Inner Strength

At Coach Krissy Fitness, we understand the importance of building not just outer strength, but inner resilience as well. Transforming your mindset is key to lasting change, happiness, and overall well-being.

Let’s delve into shifting our mindset to truly transform our inner strength, self-worth, and belief systems through simple habits and positive shifts.

Setting the Stage for Change

A solid foundation is essential for lasting change. Imagine building a house on sand versus solid ground! The same is true for you. So, let’s set the stage for true change.

Clarify Your “Why”

Why do you want a mindset shift? Empowerment and worthiness should be your guiding lights, not fear or judgment. For example, you might want to get fit and love yourself more deeply to age gracefully, inspiring your children with your self-love and strength.
The “why” above is empowering, it has nothing to do with things that are fleeting and built upon shaky foundation, like, looks or weight that change over time. Instead, it is empowering!

Write Your “WHY” Down

Grab your journal or a piece of paper, and take some deep, calming breaths. and let’s establish your empowering “why”.

Write down your wellness or fitness goal and your empowering “WHY” behind it.

Then, dig deeper and explore an even deeper “why” to connect with your core values.

For example, the even deeper why for the above example could be: “I want to be physically fit, and have an empowering mindset full of self-love and worthiness so that I can live a joyful and healthy life. By doing so I can co-create with the Universe a life beyond limiting beliefs, and live unapologetically authentically while taking care of my physical health and engaging in physical activity that brings me even more joy!”

That’s actually my own deeper meaning behind my own WHY I value and prioritize improving my mental, physical and spiritual wellness, and it feels so wonderful to write out, because it makes me feel extremely excited to continue to put in the work to accomplish my goals!

Establish Your Core Values

Your core values are those beliefs that matter most to you. They help to create the foundation to the decisions we make and the actions we take. I did this with my therapist and I found it to be a life changing exercise, because when you know your core values you can create a life that is in alignment with who you truly are at your core!

Your core values allow you to set boundaries around things that do not align with your values. Moreover, at your core resides your authentic self, the self that knows they are 100% worthy of love, abundance, kindness, attention, etc., 100% of the time! The more you choose to stick to your core values the more your authentic self can shine its beautiful light onto the world!

I made a list below for you to look through, but this is not an exhaustive list of core values, and you may think of other values that align for you that are not on the list and that is great!

Grab your journal, sit in stillness as you read over the list, write down the top 5-10 values that resonate with you to your core. Listen to your gut and enjoy this process.

    Refine Your Goals

    Now, let’s set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) to build upon our empowering foundation.

    Use the provided handout below to ask yourself questions and ensure your goals are SMART.

    Example SMART goal: “I will weight train three days a week for the next month, for 15-30 minutes at home using Coach Krissy’s app, before leaving for work. Coach Krissy and I will then review my progress and adjust my plan accordingly at the end of the month.”

    Making goals SMART increases your chances of success, builds confidence, and reinforces your self-worth, motivating you to keep going! A real WIN-WIN!!

    Cultivating an Empowered Mindset

    This is where the magic happens! Remember, it takes time, repetition, self-compassion, and awareness. Give yourself the chance to grow and unlearn limiting beliefs that no longer serve you. Be vulnerable and choose to embrace your authentic self every day.

    1. Challenge worn-out limiting beliefs: Pay attention to the repeated thoughts that hold you back from being you. Are you constantly telling yourself “I’m not good enough,” of “I can’t”? Challenge these limiting beliefs and replace them with empowering statements like “I can do hard things,” “I am learning and growing,” or “I always have been, and always will be enough!”
    2. Believe Your New Beliefs to Your CORE: This step is crucial!! It’s one thing to say these new phrases to yourself, but the thing that will change your life is believing their truth.
      • Why are limiting beliefs so powerful and painful in the first place? It is because you believe them to your core and you look for evidence to reinforce that belief. Even if the belief is painful, it’s familiar, and reinforce it with your beliefs. Like, if your limiting belief is “I am not enough,” you take notice when you fail and then you tell yourself, “see I told you we’re not good enough.” You usually don’t look at your successes when your stuck in a limiting belief mindset, and go “oh shit here is evidence that I truly am enough/loveable/smart/etc.” No, you only look for the evidence that reinforces the limiting belief.
      • That is true until you make the commitment to choose to challenge and replace those limiting beliefs with the truth and truly believe it! Let me take a moment to let you know how ENOUGH, beautiful, smart, loveable, etc. that you are and I don’t even have to know you to know that you are ALL of those things! Why? Because deep down we all are all of those things, we have just convinced ourselves otherwise and that ish is no longer serving our highest good!
    3. Visualize success: Spend a just few minutes each day in stillness visualizing yourself achieving your goals. See yourself feeling confident, strong, and accomplished. While you visualize take note of how it feels and imprint that feeling in your body. Believe your visualization, this is not a day dream, this is intentional and real. When done with intention visualization is another powerful tool for programming your mind for success.
    4. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable: You’ve all heard the phrase “comfort zone,” but I like to call it the “familiarity zone,” because that zone usually is NOT comfortable it is just familiar and familiar can mascaraed as “comfort.”
      • Things that are familiar seem comfortable on the surface, but deep down they often cost us greatly. The cost can be our authenticity, our freedom, our dreams, etc. In order to change we have to acknowledge those things that feel comfortable and step outside them to the uncomfortable.
      • We have to apologize to our spouse when we know we were in the wrong even if its uncomfortable. We have to admit that our job is soul crushing and be uncomfortable to look for a new job or to pave a whole new path for ourselves and career!
      • We have to understand that growth happens outside of our familiarity zone and that some discomfort initially will set us up for success and joy in the long run!

    Surround Yourself With Love & Joy

    Be mindful and selective of the people you hang out with and the information you consume. Surround yourself with positive influences who uplift and support you on your journey. Limit exposure to negativity, whether it comes from external sources or your own self-doubt.

Overall, this is an amazing resource to support you and help you to dive deeper into understanding and changing your mindset!

    Conclusion

    My beautiful warriors it is TIME we take control of our lives and our mindset. No longer are we living in the familiarity zone at the discomfort of our authentic self. This month we are setting SMART goals, clarifying our “why” and establishing our core values. From there we will cultivate a new and empowered mindset by challenging worn-out limiting beliefs, declaring and believing our new authentic beliefs, visualizing our success, and getting comfortable stepping into discomfort. Don’t forget, my friends, that this is a journey, not a destination, that is fueled by self-compassion, self-love, consistency, and staying true to your authentic self!
